Description

These churro bars are a delightful twist on a classic. They combine the warm spice of cinnamon with sweet sugar in an easy-to-bake bar format. Perfect for sharing, these bars offer a satisfying crunch and a comforting flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
  7. Spread half of the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  8. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the dough.
  9. Dot the remaining dough over the cinnamon sugar layer, then spread it as evenly as possible.
  10. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture over the top.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  12. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly toast the cinnamon sugar mixture in a dry skillet for a minute before sprinkling on the bars.
  • Ensure your butter is truly softened for the best creaming results.
  • These bars are best stored at room temperature in an airtight container.
