Description

Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil


Instructions

  1. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage.
  2. Blanch the cabbage in boiling water until the leaves are softened.
  3. In a bowl, combine ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  4. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center of each cabbage leaf and roll it up.
  5. In a large pot, combine crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  6. Place the cabbage rolls in the tomato sauce.
  7. Simmer for at least 1 hour, or until the cabbage is very tender.

Notes

  • You can add a bay leaf to the sauce for extra flavor.
  • Serve with a dollop of sour cream or a sprinkle of fresh parsley.
