Ingredients

  • 8 cups stale bread cubes (about 1 pound)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups chopped yellow onion (about 2 medium)
  • 1.5 cups chopped celery (about 3 ribs)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried sage
  • 0.25 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1.5 cups chicken broth
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly toasted.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and celery and cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Add garlic, salt, pepper, sage, and thyme. Cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  5. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread cubes and the vegetable mixture.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together chicken broth and egg. Pour over the bread mixture and toss gently to combine.
  7. Transfer stuffing to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and golden brown on top.
