Description

Simple recipe for delicious homemade baked beans.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound bacon, diced
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 (15 ounce) cans pork and beans
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook bacon in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon and set aside, leaving bacon fat in the pot.
  3. Add onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Stir in pork and beans, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  5. Stir in the cooked bacon.
  6. Bake uncovered for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until bubbly and slightly thickened.
  7. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • For a thicker sauce, simmer on the stovetop for a longer time.
  • You can add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a bit of heat.
