Description

A simple recipe for a tender and flavorful pot roast made in a crock pot, complete with a delicious gravy.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 3-4 lb Chuck Roast
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Beef Broth
  • 1 packet (1 oz) Ranch Dressing mix
  • 1 packet (1 oz) Brown Gravy mix
  • Salt and Pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Season the chuck roast with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear the roast on all sides.
  3. Place the chopped onion in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  4. Place the seared roast on top of the onions.
  5. Add minced garlic, beef broth, and ranch dressing mix.
  6. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the roast is tender.
  7. Remove the roast from the slow cooker and let it rest.
  8. In a saucepan, whisk together the brown gravy mix with some of the slow cooker juices.
  9. Heat the gravy over medium heat until thickened.
  10. Slice the roast and serve with the gravy.

Notes

  • You can add potatoes and carrots to the slow cooker for a complete meal. Add them in the last 2-3 hours of cooking.
  • For a thicker gravy, add a cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp cold water) to the saucepan while heating.
  • Adjust seasonings to your preference.
