Description

Tender beef meatballs simmered in a rich, savory onion sauce, inspired by classic French onion soup flavors. Perfect for a comforting fall or winter meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  4. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Brown the meatballs on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside.
  6. Add the sliced onion to the same skillet and cook until softened and lightly browned, about 8-10 minutes.
  7. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in the dried thyme.
  8. Bring the sauce to a simmer. Return the meatballs to the skillet.
  9. Cover the skillet and transfer to the preheated oven. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For deeper flavor, you can caramelize the onions for a longer period.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, noodles, or crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
