Make delicious from-scratch Amish baked beans. This recipe is easy to follow.
Ingredients

- 1 pound dried navy beans
- 8 cups water
- 1/2 pound bacon, diced
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Rinse the beans and soak them overnight in water.
- Drain the beans.
- In a pot, combine beans and 8 cups of fresh water.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour, or until beans are tender.
- While beans simmer, cook bacon in a large pot until crispy. Remove bacon, leaving some grease.
- Add onion to the pot and cook until softened.
- Add cooked bacon, beans, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Stir well.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for 2-3 hours, or until beans are tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally.
Notes
- You can add a ham hock for extra flavor.
- Adjust the sweetness to your liking.
- Serve hot.
