Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Optional: Sprinkles for decorating
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the butter turns a golden brown and smells nutty. This is browned butter. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, cream together the browned butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- If using, gently fold in sprinkles.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are still soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For softer cookies, do not overbake.
- You can chill the dough for 30 minutes before baking if you prefer thicker cookies.
- Browned butter adds a wonderful depth of flavor you’ll love.
