- 2 pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 8 cloves garlic, peeled
- 1 cup milk, warmed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Place potatoes and garlic in a large pot. Cover with cold water by about an inch.
- Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium and cook until potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and garlic well. Return them to the hot pot over low heat for 1 minute to dry them out.
- Mash the potatoes and garlic using a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
- Gradually add the warm milk and softened butter, mixing until well combined and creamy.
- Stir in salt and pepper to taste.
- If using, stir in the Parmesan cheese.
- Serve hot.
