Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 8 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese


Instructions

  1. Place potatoes and garlic in a large pot. Cover with cold water by about an inch.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium and cook until potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Drain the potatoes and garlic well. Return them to the hot pot over low heat for 1 minute to dry them out.
  4. Mash the potatoes and garlic using a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the warm milk and softened butter, mixing until well combined and creamy.
  6. Stir in salt and pepper to taste.
  7. If using, stir in the Parmesan cheese.
  8. Serve hot.
